In partnership with Merrill Weiss and Sunbelt Television, WIS completes the new CH 44 DTV system at Mt Harvard, CA. The overall project scope included a turnkey microwave system, planning, engineering, A&E, permitting, material procurement, road clearing, coordination, ATC NTP submittals, installation and testing. Beyond the normal installation and coordination challenges one faces during a project of this nature, the team encountered a few unique challenges that were swiftly and carefully thought out and executed safely. The first challenge was fitting the entire transmitter system in basically a 10′ x 10′ box….not going to happen. WIS quickly planned out, negotiated and executed the relocation of another tenants equipment (KNBC and thank you for your support on that!) to allow more lease area for the new transmitter equipment to fit nicely. Another challenge was access to the top of the 55′ long cantilever antenna for rigging and kicker placement. The resolution, which worked perfectly, was a TEMP pole engineered and designed to attach to the main antenna mount allowing safe access for our personnel during installation. This pole was then removed to reduce loading. Overall things went very smoothly on this project and the clients deadline was met despite the usual permitting, equipment delivery and NTP delays that ultimately eat up our original installation schedules. As usual, thanks to the hard work and commitment of our dedicated and skilled staff, we were able to condense our schedule to stay on track with our commitments. Thanks to all that participated and supported WIS on this unique project.
